Due to my working from home during this pandemic, my Neon has spent more time parked in front of my house than usual. We are technically supposed to move our cars around every 48 hours but literally nobody in the neighborhood does that.
Well, the busybodies won’t let a worldwide pandemic get in the way of their primary source of entertainment: making other people’s lives more difficult. The HOA management company sent me a letter that says I have to move the N eon or get fined or towed.
Yes, I’m technically in violation of the rules, so I’m not going to fight it, but I damn sure will bitch about it on Oppo.

sounds like you have a new “best friend” - make them happy now, but don’t forget... people are just being little sh!ts with all this pandemic cr@p.

What kind of rule is that exactly? is the Neon in your driveway or on the street? will moving it 10 feet to a different spot clear you of th e violation? You own the Neon, and live in your home. Why can’t you park your car in your spot for all the time you wish because its YOUR HOME?

I'm so glad I don't have an HOA to deal with.

who the fuck tattles on their neighbor like that. Fuck the HOA too.

Park it in front of a different house everyday. Your neighbors will love you!

All of the parking in the neighborhood is “guest parking only.” The car has been in the spot right in front of my house for a while now, due to the pandemic. Moving the car every 2 days meets the letter of the law, but will be a pain. Also, if someone is reporting it to the management company, they aren’t going to take note of the exact timing, so I still may end up with more letters.
First world problem, for sure, but why can’t people just mind their business?

I wish I could narrow it down! The loudest complainers in the neighborhood are all within 10 houses from me.

That is the plan. Nobody in general cares, since there is plenty of parking available. Also almost every car I see in the neighborhood has been in its spot for a while.

This is the 4th or 5th time I’ve gotten a letter about something that nobody talked to me directly about. The HOA management company immediately acts on these things without following up with the homeowner first.
HOA’s are bad, but mostly because the courts have given them enormous power. And then ultimately it’s the neighbors who report things that a simple conversation could have resolved. My other neighbor and I have had no problem asking each
other to move cars when necessary. He is a Honda mechanic and often uses a couple parking spots while he fixes the cars in his garage (probably also a violation of several rules/laws). He’s been super nice about moving them around when necessary, no HOA required.

Never again, if I can possibly avoid it

You know, if I knew for sure who complained...

I understand that’s rather difficult in some regions. Thankfully it is not hard to avoid where I live.

I’ll get it if an RV has been there for weeks, or maybe a car in pieces. Parking YOUR car in front of YOUR house should have little to no regulation.
That is such a stupid rule. Chalk up another reason not avoid the HOA while I house shop. Another reason to have neighbors far away too.

I’d be very curious to know how “move” is defined and just scootching it around a few inches at a time if at all possible.

a: ask em for proof it hasnt moved
b: go out and wash off any chalking on your tyres.

100% agree. We’ll be moving within the next year and no HOA is high on the list of priorities.

They don’t use chalk or anything. They just get complaints from neighbors and blindly send out the letters. The management company who runs this doesn’t even coordinate well with the actual HOA. It sounds like a silly system because it is.

My handbrake barely works, so that might be happening anyway
